Light Box Maker: 3D printable LED light boxes
Turn a logo, a sign or a piece of flat artwork into a light box you can print and light up. Upload a picture and the studio reduces it to a few filament colours, sets it into a thin front panel that glows, wraps it in a frame that stops light leaking out the sides, and gives you a back that clips on with a hole wherever your LED lead needs to come out. It exports as two plates, both flat, neither needing supports, checked before you can download.
How it works
- Upload a picture or SVG. It is reduced to a few filament colours and set into the front.
- Pick the shape and size of the box, or let it take the silhouette of your picture, and set how deep it needs to be for your LED.
- Turn on diffusion, and reflection if you want the panel to light more evenly.
- Add a hole for your power lead and slide it to where your socket is.
- Set the back and how tightly it clips in, then export two print ready plates in one zip.
What it does that the others do not
A front that actually glows
The front is thin on purpose, 0.8mm, which is what real light boxes use. The picture is set flush into it in filament colours, not stacked on top.
A back that clips in
A full size back panel seats on the frame, and an undersize plug with grip ribs holds it. Tune the clearance and squeeze to your printer.
Any LED, any lead
Set the depth for a strip, a COB strip or something chunkier, then put as many holes as you need exactly where you need them.
Or no box at all
Silhouette makes the box the shape of your picture, so a logo or a character has no blank panel around it.
One extruder is enough
Layer swap mode gives you a light box without an AMS: the picture stands proud and you change filament once.

Recommended print settings
- No supports. Every wall is vertical and every top is flat.
- The front plate prints picture side down, so the art comes off the smooth bed.
- A 0.4mm nozzle holds the picture detail. Tell the studio your nozzle and it sizes to it.
- Print the front in a light colour and the frame in a dark one, so light leaves through the picture.
Questions
What does it export?
A zip with two print ready .3mf plates: the front with its frame, which prints picture side down, and the back, which prints flat. Neither needs supports. Both open straight in Bambu Studio or Orca.
What LED do I put in it?
Whatever you like. An LED strip or COB strip is the usual choice and needs about 15 to 25mm of depth; a puck or a bulb needs more, and you can set the depth to suit. Add a hole in the back sized to your lead, a USB tail, a barrel jack or a bare strip lead, and slide it to wherever your socket is.
How does the back stay on?
The back drops in and grip ribs hold it. The back panel is full size so it sits flat on the frame, and the plug under it is cut slightly undersize so it slides in, with small ribs that squeeze against the frame. If it is too tight or too loose, the clearance and the rib squeeze are both sliders.
What are the diffusion and reflection layers?
Diffusion is a thin white layer behind the picture. It softens the LED so you do not see hot spots, and it holds the colour areas together. Reflection is a white layer inside the back, bouncing light that went backwards forward again so the panel lights evenly. Both are optional.
I only have one extruder. Can I still make one?
Yes. Switch the picture to Layer swap: the panel prints in the light colour and the picture stands proud of it, so you change filament once partway up and everything above comes out opaque. No AMS needed.
