Resin Print Cost Calculator

The true cost of a resin print, consumables and failures included.

From your slicer
Supports and vat losses, 5 to 15
Alcohol, gloves, FEP wear
$1.46per print
Resin$1.05
Waste (10%)$0.10
Cleanup$0.30
Total cost$1.46

Hollowing models with drain holes cuts resin use and the cost per part sharply.

Resin is sold by the litre and used by the millilitre, and a lot of it never reaches the part: it clings to supports and stays in the vat. This turns the volume your slicer reports into a real cost, waste and cleanup included.

How to use it

  1. Enter the resin volume your slicer reports for the print, in millilitres.
  2. Enter the bottle price and its volume, so the tool knows the cost per millilitre.
  3. Add a waste percentage for what clings to supports and the vat.
  4. Optionally add a per-print cleanup cost for alcohol, gloves and FEP.
  5. Read the total cost of the part.

What it does

Waste is counted

The slicer volume is the ideal. This adds the resin that never becomes part, which is the number that surprises people.

Cleanup as a line

Alcohol, gloves and the FEP film wear out. On small parts they matter, and they are here if you want them.

What people use it for

Selling miniatures

A tabletop army is dozens of small prints. Know the resin cost per model before you price the squad.

Dental and jewellery casting

Specialty resins are dear. Costing a small part properly is the difference between a healthy margin and a quiet loss.

Comparing to filament

For a given part, is resin or filament cheaper to make? Price both and see.

Good to know

  • Hollow your models and add drain holes: it cuts resin use dramatically and lowers the cost per part.
  • Support waste rises with heavy support structures. Lighter, well-placed supports save resin as well as cleanup.
  • LCD resin printers draw little power compared to an FDM machine heating a bed, so electricity is usually a rounding error here.
  • Standard bottles are 500ml or 1000ml. Enter the one you actually buy so the per-millilitre cost is right.

Questions

How much resin does a print use?

Your slicer reports it in millilitres. Lychee, Chitubox and the Bambu resin workflow all show the resin volume for the sliced job. Enter that here.

Why add a waste percentage?

Resin clings to supports, drips in the vat, and some is lost cleaning. A small waste figure, 5 to 15 percent, turns the slicer's ideal volume into what the bottle actually loses.

Does it count IPA and consumables?

You can add a per-print cleanup cost for isopropyl alcohol, gloves and FEP wear. Resin is the big number, but on small parts the consumables are not nothing.

Is resin more expensive than filament?

Per millilitre resin often costs more than filament per gram, but resin prints are usually small and hollow, so a finished part can land either way. This tells you for your part.
